IB-94 Blaster
Time for another blaster. This time, however, I wanted to not only make something with a functional trigger, but also try to get better at making better molds. Finally getting a better air compressor and pressure pot, I think I nailed the mold making aspect of the build. Casting barrels still eludes me, but trying some of the lessons picked up by watching Robert Tolone’s wizardry helped step up my game.
Printing the IB-94 was certainly more tricky than any previous 3D models, and my only regret was making the groups of parts to be molded a bit more flexible. I did make a mold of some Imperial Credits, just to throw some extra material in between cast. It let me play around with trying Smooth-on’s Metal Powder lines, which I’m now addicted to using.
I’m really happy with how this turned out; it was certainly the culmination of the last year’s worth of things learned by making space guns. Also, the last minute decision to throw some tungsten pellets gave the blaster the extra heft it needed to feel like a functional blaster.
